February in a Flash!

OMG - where did February go? This was a hectic month and I didn't get to share much of it on my little online space here! So....where should I start?

Earlier in the month, my daycare and friend Melissa finally had sweet baby Evan! He was born on February 4th. She wasn't due for a week and had planned to work up until her delivery date. Evan had other plans! Melissa had called early Monday morning and said she had been having heavy duty contractions and was heading to the hospital. Later that afternoon, her little angel arrived!  We were thrilled for her and her family! This meant Leah and Mason would be transitioning daycare sooner than planned. My good friend Jenny was willing to watch the kids for me during her maternity leave. Jenny has two boys - one that is 3 and another that is 5. Jenny also watches another little boy full time, and another little girl on a part time basis. On the first day that I dropped them off, I was a bit worried about Leah. (I knew Mason would be fine - he is such a laid back little dude). Leah on the otherhand, is painfully shy and I knew her world was going to be shaken up since she would be out of her comfort zone. Luckily the adjustment went pretty smooth and things are going good! Leah clicked with the kids rather quickly and finally opened up. Jenny sure keeps them busy! She sends me pictures all throughout the day showing me the different activities she has them engaged in. Leah has been enjoying her time over there!

First day at Jenny's - having fun coloring

Valentine's Day

I did take a week off of work to be home with the kids to spend time with them and to also give Jenny a break. We had Leah's birthday extravaganza the weekend just before (which I did have time to blog about), so it was nice to have a little break. My time home was pretty uneventful. We got to sleep in and be lazy in the morning. We met Melissa out one day for lunch so Leah could see her best buddy Teagan and spend a little time with baby Evan. Another day, my dad came and picked up Leah for the afternoon. He took her to Chuck E. Cheese and to McDonald's. My Dad doesn't get to do that kind of stuff to often, so I know they both enjoyed the time out.
During my time home, I also took Leah for her 3 year old checkup. This little girl was terrified to go to the doctor and was so nervous the whole way there. She must have told me at least 20 times that she didn't want to go to the doctor and she was scared. She associates the doctor's office with getting shots. Luckily for her, there were NO shots at this appointment. My little peanut did awesome! She was a little weary when the doctor told us we had to take off all of her clothes. She was not happy about that. Everything checked out good. My princess is 38 inches tall and weighs 33 pounds. Pour Mase had to get his 2nd dose of the flu shot. He was not a happy camper.

In this midst of the craziness of life and work, I have also gone back to school. I am taking these prep classes for a benefits certification which is equivalent to the CPA, but in the HR world. It is a series of 8 exams. You have to pass all of the exams to obtain the overall certification. So right now, I am taking a 10 week prep course for the first exam. It is Wednesday nights from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm, which really bites the big one since I don't get home until about 10:30 pm. If anyone knows me - that is past me bedtime! So in addition to 3 hours of class at night, there is tons of reading and homework that I need to do during the week too. Womp, womp, womp.....for me. Seven more classes and seven more exams to go (provided I pass this one!)! This is a huge committment and it will probably take me at least 2 years to complete.

Other than that - I can't believe February has come and gone! Hopefully March will allow me more time! Come on spring!!!

The Weekend of Leah - SpongeBob Parties!!!

February 16th marked Leah's 3rd birthday! 3!!! Can you believe it? She came into this world at 1:32 am in 2010. It seems just like yesterday she was a tiny little baby. Today she is a beautiful, smart, sassy, sweet, funny, wonderful little girl. She has made our life so fulfilling and has brought us so much joy! Words can't express how much we love her. Three years have gone by in the blink of an eye!

This year, Leah has been obsessed with SpongeBob....like seriously obsessed. We have about 150 episodes on our DVR. Sometimes she'll wake up in the middle of the night and ask me to put Spongebob on for her. Sometimes I think she is still asleep when she asks. It is what she wants to watch when she first wakes up. She'll tell me about different episodes and sing the theme song. I am not sure why she is drawn to it so much. (If you are an adult and have seen the show, chances are it drives you nuts)!! We decided that we would give her a Spongebob birthday celebration this year and she was over the moon about it! For the past month, she's been telling anyone that will listen that she is having a SpongeBob party for her birthday. I was hoping she would want something a little more girly - Minnie Mouse or Disney Princesses, but since that didn't happen, I decided to run with it! Luckily, SpongeBob is pretty popular so I didn't have too much trouble finding SpongeBob related 'stuff.'

After Leah went to bed on Friday night, we decided to decorate the downstairs to surprise her when she woke up in the morning on  her birthday. We put up streamers and balloons and put out her presents. This year we decided to get her a bike for her birthday. She was so happy when she woke up in the morning. After presents, she had a yummy pink doughnut for breakfast. We put candles in it and sang 'Happy Birthday' to her!
This is what Leah woke up to in the morning!
Leah loves her new bike!
Disney Princess Dresses for dress-up
Birthday Doughnut with candles

Later in the day, we had to get ready for her SpongeBob birthday party with family. We rented the clubhouse in our sub-division and attempted to turn it into 'Bikini Bottom' where SpongeBob lives. First, I had to get pictures of my littles in their SpongeBob gear before the party.
This year, I didn't have as much time as I did last year to get things together for her party. I love focusing on all of the little details, but it is time consuming. I did what I could! There were so many more things I wish I could have done!
All the food!
Dessert Table
Sponge Cakes (a.k.a cupcakes)
Krabby Patties (a.k.a. peanut butter cookies with frosting)
SpongeBob Cake from Wal-Mart
Plankton Planks (a.k.a. chocolate covered pretzels)
Seanut and Jellyfish Sandwiches (a.k.a. peanut butter and jelly sandwiches)
We did a Mexican themed buffet. I made chicken and steak for tacos. I made a few appetizers and salad. I catered rice, beans, quesadillas, taquitos and guacamole from Hacienda in Bolingbrook.
Some of the centerpieces. Yellow and SpongeBob balloons were tied to it. (I forgot to take picture of the room)
The other centerpieces that I made, but forgot to take pictures of in the room. The room was full of yellow balloons and SpongeBob balloons.

Leah and Mason seemed to be the only ones in to SpongeBob
Leah started to get tired!

Leah started to open her presents, but was heading for a meltdown. We got through half of them and had to take the other half homw. Overall, I think Leah's family party was a success! Everyone seemed to have a good time. Thank you to everyone who made Leah's day extra special! By the time we got home, we were all pooped. We went to bed early to gear up for party #2 the next morning, with all of Leah's little buddies!

For Leah's kid party, we had a party at GymQuest in Plainfield. Leah LOVES it there so I thought it would be perfect to have a party there. Basically, the kids have free reign of the gym for an entire hour. They have trampolines, balance beams, foam pits, ropes, mats, inflatibles, slide and more. After running around, they have a private party room upstairs we had pizza and cupcakes. Unfortunately, Leah had a lot of friends that weren't able to make her party. We missed them! Leah had a great time and I hope all of the kids did too!
Just before leaving for her party
All of the kids at the party!
Jumping!

I am bummed that the batteries in my camera died before the party was over. I didn't get any pictures of the kids eating pizza or Leah blowing the candles out of her cake. Oh well!

I hope Leah had a wonderful birthday weekend! We wanted her to feel special and let her know we love her to pieces! Happy Birthday to my sweet baby girl!!!
